Why are people who aren't passionate about knowledge attending our school system? Education = best way to go? The mentality in America is that young people go to school first; if they do not do well there, they have immediately blown their biggest break in life, and must settle for something less. Sigh…if only we can be like the great ones of the past… The stories we hear as children are about those who taught themselves to read and rose to greatness. These people wanted to learn. School. What do straight A's mean? It means one of three things. 1) Your school is too easy. 2) You adore all your classes and every subject is an adventure that you take on with joy in your heart. 3) You've just evidenced to yourself and the rest of the world that you'd prostitute yourself and do something for which you don't have the slightest inkling of passion all for your own indulgent gratification. Much like the rat that only goes through the maze for the cheese, you've reduced your life to a pawn in this third option. This is one of my arguments. I don't think higher education is the best. I believe people are capable of doing that which they were born to do. If you're meant to be a carpenter, you're meant to be a carpenter. If you're meant to be the teenage wife of a carpenter who experiences the world's only virgin birth, God's got his plan. You do what you can. I do not know what I'm meant to do. Can thinkers exist outside of college? A second thought. If you don't want to be a cheese-grubbing rat, why do what you don't desire to do? Are you afraid that your innermost desires are evil or counterproductive? If they are, is following someone else's directions your way of escaping that which you fear? Yourself? Or do you not want to burden society with your worthlessness in self? This all leads to the most important question - Why change your innermost self when you can merely change your outside actions? Too much work, too much thought, too much learning about your own evil and ignoring it, too much good that can result - Are these the answers!? Are these my answers? |
